Zamfara: CP Bello vows to tackle insecurity, rebuild public trust

Zamfara State’s newly posted Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, has vowed to tackle insecurity and restore public confidence in the police as the state marks the start of the 2026 National Police Day celebrations.

Speaking at a press briefing on his assumption of office, CP Bello outlined his commitment to strengthening the state’s security framework and dismantling criminal networks.

“Our mission is to uphold the rule of law with integrity and to work closely with communities and stakeholders to create a safer environment,” he said.

“Every citizen, regardless of background, must be treated with dignity and respect.”

The Commissioner, the 35th indigenous CP of Zamfara, thanked the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwanu Disu, for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading security operations in one of the country’s most challenging states.

Highlighting the persistent security challenges in Zamfara, CP Bello noted that armed banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on communities since 2015 have caused significant loss of lives and disrupted education and agriculture, which are key sectors of the state’s economy.

He emphasized the importance of community policing and people-centered law enforcement, pledging to strengthen partnerships, improve accountability, and adopt innovative strategies, including digital solutions and evidence-based operations.

CP Bello also announced that the National Police Day celebration would run from March 30 to April 7, 2026, aimed at fostering collaboration between the police and the public and encouraging adherence to the rule of law.

He urged community leaders, stakeholders, and residents to actively participate in the activities.

Reaffirming his support for the vision of the Inspector General, CP Bello stated that the Nigeria Police Force would continue evolving into a more transparent and people-oriented institution, calling for unity and cooperation between law enforcement and citizens to achieve lasting peace in Zamfara State.
