South-East must be strategic to get presidency – Umahi

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has urged the Southeast to adopt a strategic approach in positioning itself to produce the next president after Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umahi made the call on Thursday during the opening of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway to vehicular traffic, a move aimed at easing congestion ahead of the Easter celebrations.

The minister also expressed confidence that the Southeast would deliver 80 per cent of its votes to Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

“I want to call on the leaders of the Southeast to be bold in persuading our people to vote for Mr. President,” he said.

He added that governance is anchored on “development, building infrastructure, ensuring fairness, promoting equity, and upholding justice.”

Umahi further stressed the need for overwhelming electoral support, saying: “We can’t afford to give him anything less than 80 percent; do that and leave the rest to us. We’ll boldly go to the negotiation table.

“Let no one divide our votes, let no one confuse us. I was shouting that in 2023 when I was the governor, prepare the way for the lord.”
