Iran ex-Foreign Minister, Kharrazi is dead

Former Iranian Foreign Minister, Kamal Kharrazi has died from injuries sustained in an airstrike, Iranian state media reported early Friday.

Kharrazi, who served as head of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, had been wounded days earlier in an Israeli-U.S. airstrike.

The state news agency IRNA confirmed his death, stating that he “was martyred a few hours ago.”

He served as the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic from 1997 to 2005.

In recent years, Kharrazi had been acting as an adviser to Iran’s long-time Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to media reports.

Khamenei was killed at the start of the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.

The April 1 airstrike that left Kharrazi critically injured also killed his wife during the attack.
