Pretoria ā The City of Tshwane has revealed that the recent water supply interruptions in some areas were caused by vandalism at the Eersterust Reservoir.
The vandalism incident depleted the reservoir, and subsequent assessments by operational teams confirmed that a valve had been damaged.
āAs an interim measure, technical teams manually opened the supply system to restore water to affected areas while arrangements are being finalised to undertake permanent repairs and prevent any further deterioration of the damaged infrastructure,ā explained the City of Tswane on Saturday,20 June 2026.
Water supply has since been successfully restored.
The City said it āstrongly condemns acts of vandalism directed at critical infrastructure, as these criminal acts disrupt essential services and negatively affect residents and businessesā.
Customers have been urged to report any suspicious activities or acts of vandalism to the relevant authorities.
āCustomers have a shared responsibility to protect municipal infrastructure and are encouraged to regard these assets as their own, as they are provided for the benefit of communities,ā the City said.
āBy safeguarding and reporting damage to public infrastructure, communities can play a vital role in ensuring reliable and uninterrupted service delivery for all.ā
