DA Dunoon Candidate Sinovuyo Dyokwe Shot Dead During Voter Registration Weekend 

Cape Town – Democratic Alliance (DA) Dunoon Ward 104 by-election candidate Sinovuyo Dyokwe was fatally shot on the first day of the Voter Registration Weekend.

Sinovuyo was gunned down on Saturday, 20 June 2026, en route home from the voter registration venue after dedicating her day to registering or re-registering DA voters.

Commenting on the murder, the DA said it was “saddened and outraged by the murder of our Dunoon Ward 104 by-election candidate and community activist, Sinovuyo Dyokwe”.

The DA extended “deepest condolences” to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sinovuyo.

Known for her bright smile and bubbly personality, Sinovuyo was instrumental in growing the DA voter base in Dunoon and cemented herself as a reliable and effective community activist.

“Constituency Head Nicholas Gotsell is engaging with the South African Police Service to ascertain the facts,” the DA  said.

The DA said it has arranged counselling for Sinovuyo’s family, friends, and colleagues.

The DA added that it is “monitoring the situation closely” and will fight to ensure Sinovuyo’s loved ones receive the justice they deserve.

In remembering the slain activist Sinovuyo, the DA said: “Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the DA.

“Your dedication and sacrifices will forever be remembered.

“Rest in peace, Sinovuyo”

Meanwhile, ActionSA has set aside party differences and extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the slain DA candidate.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Ms Dyokwe’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

“We pray that the Lord grants them comfort and strength as they deal with this devastating and senseless loss.

ActionSA called on the police to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice immediately.

“We extend our support and solidarity to Ms. Dyokwe’s family and loved ones, as well as to the DA, her colleagues and supporters, as they mourn her untimely passing,” said ActionSA Cape Town Spokesperson Stephan Gerber.

In Polokwane, Limpopo, a suspect was arrested by police from the Rakgoadi Police Station for vandalising IEC branding materials in the form of banners and tear drops.

The suspect allegedly committed the offence on Saturday, 20 June 2026, and fled the scene.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court, facing charges relating to malicious damage to property and contravention of electoral laws.
