Troops arrest suspected armed robber, cattle rustler in Taraba

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), working together with operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), have arrested a suspected armed robber and cattle rustler in Taraba State.

The development was contained in a post shared on X on Tuesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the arrest was made at about 5:00 p.m. on June 21 at the Mbiam checkpoint in Takum Local Government Area of the state.

Security sources said the operation followed coordinated surveillance and tracking carried out by troops of Sector 3 OPWS alongside intelligence operatives, who had been monitoring the suspect’s activities.

“The suspect had earlier been placed on a watchlist over alleged involvement in armed robbery and cattle rustling in Takum and neighbouring communities.

“The suspect is currently in military custody and is being processed for further action,” Makama wrote.

Military authorities said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to reduce violent crimes in the area, especially armed robbery and cattle rustling, which have affected parts of southern Taraba.
