Amotekun Day: Corps Commander seeks public support in tackling insecurity, violent crimes

The Corps Commander of the Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, Isaac Omoyele, has called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in tackling insecurity, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

Speaking on Tuesday to commemorate World Amotekun Day, Omoyele said the annual observance, which began on 7 July 2025, is synonymous with the principles of the United Nations Charter by promoting peace, security and the protection of lives and property.

The corps commander said the agency had continued to confront rising security threats despite what he described as increasingly emboldened criminal activities.

“We have been dealing with insecurity and kidnapping. Criminals are emboldened in their activities daily, but we are up to the task,” Omoyele said.

He disclosed that Amotekun had strategically deployed personnel to boundary communities across Osun State to monitor entry points frequently used by suspected criminals.

“This is why we have positioned our personnel in all the boundary towns since we know the points of entry of some of these criminals,” he stated.

Omoyele urged members of the public to remain alert and share useful information with security agencies, stressing that maintaining security was a collective responsibility.

“We want people to be vigilant since it is not only Amotekun that can do it, and other security agencies are up to the task,” he said.

The commander maintained that the corps had remained committed to its statutory responsibility of combating violent crimes, banditry and armed robbery throughout the state.

“We are doing the best in fulfilling our core mandate to curb violent crimes, banditry and robberies. Our records are there to show throughout the year, and the residents appreciate us for that,” Omoyele added.

He stressed that criminal elements were not beyond the reach of security operatives, saying the corps possessed the capacity and determination to confront them effectively.

“These criminals are not spirits; they are human beings like us, so we have what it takes to counter them, and our people are doing their best to stem the tide of criminality in Osun State,” he said.

Omoyele also reaffirmed that Amotekun was established as a regional security outfit to complement existing security agencies and insisted that the organisation remained non-partisan.

“Amotekun is not a political organisation and it is not in alliance with any political party in Osun State,” he said, while appealing to residents to support the corps in its operations.

He explained that surveillance and the protection of lives and property remained central to the agency’s mandate, adding that intelligence from local communities was vital because Amotekun personnel were present in every local government area of the state and could be reached whenever needed.
