Alert Oshoek Border Police Sniff Out Massive Dagga Consignment Hidden In Tyre Load

Oshoek – Alert border police have sniffed out a massive dagga consignment concealed in a truck carrying tyres enroute to South Africa from neighbouring Eswatini.

The articulated Volvo truck transporting the contraband with an estimated street value of R4 million was intercepted at the Oshoek Port of Entry in Mpumalanga yesterday, Monday, 17 August 2026.

The cannabis – packed in 49 bags wrapped in plastic – was discovered concealed among the load of tyres by police during a routine search of vehicles at the border gate.

Commenting on the dagga bust, Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise said: “The successful interception of this substantial consignment demonstrates the determination of our police members to remain vigilant at our Ports of Entry.

“We are aware that traffickers often try their luck [to cross] our borders into the province to carry out their criminal activities.”

Lieutenant General Modise said uncovering the attempted smuggling of dagga from neighbouring Eswatini into South Africa demonstrates that “our plan to combat cross-border activities is working successfully.”

Police seized the truck and arrested the driver, who is set to appear in court on charges relating to dealing in dagga.
