Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have detained a suspected Boko Haram terrorist and others connected to the kidnapping of a district head in Taraba State. The accused, Nura Yakubu, was captured on December 20, 2024, in Garba Chede, Bali Local Government Area. As per a statement from the Brigade’s Acting Spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, Yakubu, a food vendor, was said to have harbored Boko Haram operatives involved in terrorist acts in Taraba State. Investigations have also linked Yakubu and his group to earlier kidnappings in the area, such as those of businessman Mr. Arinze and Alhaji Ibrahim’s son in Garbatau, according to the army. In a different operation, the arrest of Musa Suito was announced by the army on December 18, 2024, in Jalingo for his alleged role in the kidnapping of a district head on November 27. Suito, part of a vigilante group, reportedly used his role to gather information for the kidnappers. Recovered from him were a dane gun and two cartridges. Brigade Commander Kingsley Uwa reaffirmed the army’s dedication to protecting lives and property in Taraba State and urged residents to stay alert and work closely with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information to help combat crime effectively.
