SANTÉ: The HEXAVALENT vaccine will soon be available in health facilities

From 1 July 2025, the health structures of Senegal will have a new vaccine called ” Hexavalent “. Presented by the Programme élargi de vaccination (Pev), this new injection represents a major advance in the protection of newborns against several serious diseases. The hexavalent vaccine protects against six pathologies: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, infections with Haemophilus influenzae of type B (responsible for meningitis and pneumonia), and polio. According to Dr. Ousseynou Badiane, coordinator of the Pev, this new combined vaccine will allow not only to expand the health coverage of children, but also to reduce the number of injections needed. “With hexavalent, the number of vaccinations passes from three to two for newborns”, he said. This innovation is part of the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Health to simplify vaccination protocols, improve the comfort of children and strengthen the fight against diseases preventable by vaccination.
