The case of the 33 million in Ziguinchor: “The facts do not give me any reason”, says Amadou Tom Mbodji

In a message published on his Facebook page, Amadou Tom Mbodji, Pastef militant and president of the National Organisation of Legal and Judicial Assistance (ONAJJ), has reviewed the case of alleged embezzlement at the Ziguinchor town hall, in which the Gendarmerie’s Investigation Section recently carried out the first interpellations. Amadou Tom Mbodji recalls having been one of the first to publicly alert on the scandal: “On 2 May 2025, I published on my Facebook page a citizen’s alert concerning a presumed embezzlement of public funds in the city of Ziguinchor, valued at 27 million FCFA. I’m not sure. Following his release, he claims to have been the object of a campaign of discredit orchestrated by the mairie: “The communication cell of the mairie reacted with an official communiqué aimed at discrediting me publicly, calling me a liar, a frustrated man, or even a master-chanteur. I’m not sure. He also mentions the sanctions against him, which he calls arbitrary: “I was assigned to the voirie as a disciplinary officer, then unjustly dismissed by termination of my fixed-term contract. I’m not sure. Today, while the judicial inquiry has changed the amount of the alleged embezzlement from 27 to 33 million FCFA, Mbodji believes that the facts confirm his initial warning: ” Today, the facts give me reason. I’m not sure. In the face of criticism and personal attacks, he states that his approach was disinterested and motivated by a concern for transparency: “I would like to recall that my approach has always been guided by a single will: to defend the interests of the commune, to fight against bad governance, the misappropriation of public funds and corruption. I’m not sure.
