Following a court-ordered re-collection of the results, Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party ( NPP ) has been officially declared the winner of the Tema Central parliamentary elections. The Electoral Commission (EC ) announced that Forson secured 18, 870 votes, narrowly edging out Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress ( NDC ), who polled 18, 815 votes.
Independent prospect Frederick Aniagyei managed 209 seats, while 144 votes were rejected. Out of the entire 38, 038 seats cast, 37, 894 were true.
This statement comes after the High Court, on January 4, 2025, directed the EC to finish outcomes for Tema Central and three other divisions, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South, by January 6. To maintain order, the judge also mandated police protection while the analysis took place.
The re-collation affirmed Forson as the Member of Parliament-elect for Tema Central, solidifying the NPP’s hang on the couch. However, the NDC has signaled its intent to appeal the High Court’s decision across all four divisions, ensuring the legal fight is far from over. Forson’s success, yet, stands as a major gain for the NPP in the region.
