Arsenal, a prominent Premier League team, has issued a statement regarding Thomas Partey, who was charged with multiple counts of rape and one count of sexual assault on Friday. The club, located in North London, has distanced itself from the 32-year-old midfielder, a Ghanaian international, who is now a free agent after his contract expired at the end of June. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge Partey with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault that occurred between 2021 and 2022. He is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, after a three-year investigation. According to a CPS statement, two of the rape charges involve one female victim, while the additional three charges pertain to another victim. Partey faces a sexual assault allegation involving a third woman. On Friday night, Arsenal issued a brief comment to BBC Sport (as reported by Express) regarding the situation, stating, “The player’s contract expired on June 30.” The club cannot provide any comments regarding the case because of the active legal proceedings.
