A former Premier League player is contemplating retiring from football at the age of 29.

Former Tottenham player Dele Alli is reportedly contemplating retirement at just 27 years old after being informed he is not part of Como’s plans for the season under Cesc Fabregas. Since leaving Tottenham for Everton in 2021, Alli has experienced a difficult journey, struggling to find his form at Goodison Park and having a disappointing loan spell with Turkish club Besiktas in 2022-23. Although Everton allowed him to train with the first team during the 2023-24 season, he struggled with injuries and ultimately departed in 2024, after which Como and Fabregas offered him an opportunity early this year. However, his misfortunes continued as he was sent off on his debut for Como just ten minutes after coming on as a substitute due to a reckless tackle on Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Dele Alli has not featured for the club recently and is now reported to be “excluded” from Cesc Fabregas’ plans for the upcoming 2025-26 Serie A season, as per Gazetta dello Sport (via Mirror). The England international is contemplating retirement, having been training separately from the first team and facing limited options for his future. Fans in the Premier League will recall Alli’s impressive performances during his seven years at Tottenham, where he netted 18 goals in the Premier League during the 2016-17 season, helping Spurs secure a second-place finish. However, the All or Nothing documentary on Amazon from the 2019-20 season revealed the difficulties he faced, with former manager Jose Mourinho seen criticizing his training ethic and warning him that he would “regret” not fulfilling his potential.
