A Popular Actress Didn’t Want to Feature In The Same Movie With Me Because She Said I Was Too “Local” – Portia Laments

Renowned Kumawood actress Portia Asare has opened up about one of the most heart-breaking experiences she faced in the early days of her acting career.

In a candid revelation, she shared how she was unfairly judged and side lined simply because of her background in the local movie industry.

According to Portia, she was once cast in a movie, an opportunity she was excited about, as it was a major production that could have given her more exposure and expanded her reach beyond the Kumawood industry.

However, her excitement was short-lived when she was informed that another actress, who was initially part of the project, decided to opt out simply because Portia was also involved.

Detailing the painful incident, Portia explained that the actress in question was known for starring in English-speaking movies and, upon discovering that Portia had been included in the cast, made it clear to the producer that she would not be part of the film. When the producer confronted her about why she was backing out, she allegedly responded that she felt Portia was “too local” and did not fit the standard of movies she wanted to be associated with.

Hearing those words was a devastating blow to Portia. She recalled how deeply it affected her, making her feel unworthy and unappreciated in the industry she was trying so hard to thrive in. She had always believed that talent should be the most important factor in acting, not the language one spoke or the category of movies they starred in.
