The National Gendarmerie announced on Saturday, June 21, the arrest of four individuals suspected of having committed a robbery in Foundiougne by posing as customs agents. The operation, led by the territorial brigade of the Zone franche industrielle, took place on Thursday 19 June 2025. The defendants are being prosecuted for criminal association and usurpation of office. They would have used official uniforms and badges to conduct false controls in businesses and on public roads, in order to steal property from their victims. The investigation, re-launched after the discovery of the vehicle used in the robbery, enabled an effective tracking system to be put in place, which resulted in the interrogation of the group. A search of their home resulted in the seizure of several items belonging to the Customs Administration, white weapons, tasers and a large stock of contraband cigarettes, including Marlboro and Oris. The Gendarmerie nationale, which commends the professionalism of its units in this operation, reaffirms its determination to combat all forms of criminality.
