The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reported that the average electricity supplied to the national grid fell to 5,514 megawatts in August 2025, down from 5,577 MW in July. This information was shared in their latest Fast Sheet published on Monday. The current figure represents a 40 percent deficit relative to the country’s total installed generation capacity of 13,625 megawatts. NERC’s data indicated that the average hourly generation for August was 4,106 megawatt-hours, reflecting a utilization rate of only 74 percent of the available generation capacity. This data also highlights an increase in stranded and underutilized power compared to the 4,340 MWh/h provided in July 2025. Additionally, it was noted that the national grid experienced a collapse last Wednesday before being restored.
