The Kano State Police Command has stepped in to resolve the conflict between the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) regarding the disconnection of power, which has led to the restoration of electricity to the hospital. According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, this intervention was deemed essential due to the security and humanitarian factors surrounding the power outage, which has adversely affected crucial medical services at the hospital. The discussion took place at the Bompai Police Headquarters and was led by Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD. The Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Prof., was brought together. A. Abba Sheshe, along with Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, the Managing Director/CEO of KEDCO, held discussions regarding the situation. Following these talks, Dr. Jimeta instructed that prompt measures be taken to restore power to the hospital, emphasizing KEDCO’s dedication to addressing the issue in a friendly manner. Both sides thanked the police for their role in enabling communication and reaching consensus. The Command emphasized that the successful outcome highlighted its dedication to protecting lives and property, while also ensuring that essential services like hospitals remain uninterrupted.
