Following the death of a young man, Goodness Emiju, who was allegedly knocked down by a convoy in Oka-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government, the Chairman of the council, Ayo Ajana, has called for calm amid rising tension in the community.
Ajana, who condoled with the family of the deceased, revealed that Emiju was hit by the convoy of the Commissioner of Police in the state, a position contrary to that of the state government.
The Ondo State Government had stated that a van attached to the Officer-in-Charge (O.C.) Scorpion ran over the deceased, dismissing claims that the governor’s convoy was involved.
According to the council chairman, in a statement issued by his media aide, Oladeji Momoh, they vow to ensure a detailed and thorough investigation into the incident.
While describing the opposition’s amplification of the situation as needless, Ajana appealed to all residents, particularly in Oka-Akoko, to remain calm and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions.
“This inquiry will involve the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), medical authorities, and community representatives to establish the facts, identify any lapses, and recommend preventive measures. Convoy protocols will be rigorously reviewed, and appropriate standards applied where necessary.
“The Executive Chairman, Hon. Ayo Ajana, has also directed that comprehensive support be extended to the family of the late Mr. Abiodun Goodness Olawumi, including assistance with post-burial needs and any other form of relief required at this trying time.”
