Johannesburg – Anti-crime campaigner Yusuf Abramjee is reporting that Mahikeng is in mourning after a deadly armed robbery at Totobola Butchery claimed the lives of its owners, Sergio “Search” Gomes and his wife, Marlene “Ma-Totobola” Gomes.
Narrating events leading to the double murder, Abramjee posted on X: “Six masked suspects stormed the busy butchery, robbing customers and staff before forcing the couple to their nearby home in an attempt to access a safe.
“During the ordeal, shots were fired.
“Marlene Gomes died at the scene, while Sergio Gomes was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
“No arrests have been made.”
He said the South African Police Service has opened cases of robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder, and is appealing to the public for information.
“The Gomes family, long-time operators of the well-known business, are being remembered by the community, with customers, staff, and residents left shocked and devastated,” wrote Abramjee.
