Goals from South Africa’s lethal striker Thembi Kgatlana and captain Refiloe Jane secured the win, while Christy Ucheibe scored a late penalty for Nigeria.

Banyana’s Kaylin Swart produced a Woman of the Match performance, making crucial saves, including a last-minute stop to deny Nigeria an equaliser.
Captain Jane was both hero and villain: scoring South Africa’s second goal, then being sent off after conceding the late penalty.

Commenting on the win, Banyana coach Desiree Ellis said: “We knew it would take everything to beat Nigeria. The players showed incredible fight and composure. This win gives us belief heading into the play-offs.”
The result sends South Africa into the inter-confederation play-offs, while Nigeria miss out on the World Cup for the first time in history.
Nigeria coach Justin Madugu lamented: “It’s a bitter pill to swallow. Nigeria has always been at the World Cup, so this is painful. We must reflect and rebuild after a disappointing campaign.”
