Durban — A motorcyclist was critically injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the N3 Durban-bound carriageway near the Hammersdale offramp late Friday morning, 14 August 2026.
Emergency services reported that the crash occurred just after 10:30 a.m., prompting ALS Paramedics from the Cato Ridge operation to respond.
On arrival, paramedics found the biker lying in the roadway with severe injuries sustained in the collision.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said Advanced Life Support teams worked to stabilise the biker at the scene.
The injured biker was evacuated by a Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter, which took him to a level-one trauma facility in Pietermaritzburg.
Authorities said that the N3 highway was closed temporarily to allow the helicopter to land.
No other injuries were reported in the incident, but traffic along the busy national route has been severely affected.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area until the roadway is cleared.
The exact circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear.
Police and other relevant authorities are currently investigating the cause of the deadly crash.
