COVID-19: NCDC moves to calm public fears after new case in Cross RiversĀ

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has moved to calm growing public concern following the confirmation of a new COVID-19 case in Cross Rivers State.

DAILY POST reports that a fresh case of the disease was recorded in Cross River State on Tuesday.

Reacting to the development in a statement, the agency’s Director General, Dr. Jide Idris, said, ā€œPublic health surveillance systems remain active nationwide, and we are working closely with state authorities to ensure early detection and swift response to any case.ā€

The NCDC chief said there is no cause for alarm.

ā€œThere is no cause for alarm. We are monitoring the situation closely and our response systems are active and working,ā€ Idris added.

Health officials in Cross Rivers State have also increased monitoring across health facilities and communities, while advising residents to maintain basic hygiene practices such as regular hand washing and avoiding self medication.

The agency noted that COVID-19 has not been eradicated globally and occasional cases are still expected and urged Nigerians to rely only on verified health updates and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that could cause unnecessary panic.
