Durban – A female passenger died in an early morning car crash on the M4 Northern Freeway near the Broadway off-ramp in the Durban North Area.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the deadly crash occurred around 5 am this morning, Friday, 17 April 2026.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos and carnage as the two badly damaged vehicles obstructed the roadway,” Jamieson said.
“A quick triage was done whilst the Ethekweni Fire Department and more Ambulances were dispatched to assist.
“Paramedics found that both vehicles had two occupants each who had all sustained injuries.”
The ALS spokesperson said two occupants in the light motor vehicle were found severely entrapped in the wreckage.
“The passenger, a female believed to be in her 20s had sustained multiple injuries, and unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for her, and she was declared deceased on scene,” said Jamieson.
“The driver had sustained critical injuries and, once stabilised on the scene, was transported to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required.
“Two occupants on the second vehicle had also sustained moderate injuries and were also transported to a nearby hospital for further care that they required.“
Police were on the scene.
