No fewer than eight people have been confirmed killed with over 15 injured in an attack by suspected Fulani bandits who invaded the Gwon-Ajang village of Foron District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
A resident of the community, Joseph Azi, who confirmed the attack in a telephone chat with DAILY POST on Monday morning, said the bandits who were over 100 and heavily armed, stormed the village at about 10pm and shot sporadically causing the residents who had retired for the night to scamper for safety.
“The Fulani terrorists invaded Gwon-Ajang village of Foron District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area at about 10pm on Sunday,”
Azi said.
“They were more than 100 and heavily armed. The people had already retired to their beds when the bandits invaded the village.
“Immediately they entered the village, they started shooting while shouting “Allahu’Akbar” and speaking the Fulani language all through.
“They operated for over two hours while the people made frantic calls to security agencies but they did not come to their rescue. By the time the terrorists left, eight people were killed while over 15 others sustained injuries,” Azi said.
National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association, BYM, Rwang Tengwong, also confirmed the attack but said he was yet to gather enough information but promised to release a statement once he has been able to ascertain the facts and figures.
Efforts to get the reactions of the state police spokesman, SP Alfred Alabo, and the Media Information Officer of the Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, Captain Polycarp Oteh, were futile as calls and messages to their phones were not responded to.
