El Hadji Babacar Dioum lâche: ” I am not Kocc Barma, but I manage the sites ”

On Monday 4 August, El Hadji Babacar Dioum appeared before the Doyen des juges d’instruction at the High Court of Justice in Dakar. Convoked in the context of a case which has been feeding judicial columns and social networks for several months, the one that some associate with “Kocc Barma” has firmly rejected any implication. Since the opening of his hearing, Dioum has had to clarify things: “Je ne suis pas Kocc Barma”, he declared in a categorical tone, according to sources cited by L’Observateur. A crucial point for this man presented as the presumed founder of a highly controversial online platform, accused of infringing the privacy of many citizens. Interrogated for several hours by the magistrate instructor, El Hadji Babacar Dioum, assisted by his lawyers, adopted a clear line of defence: he said he was simply the host of websites, with no editorial responsibility for the content posted online. It affirms that it will provide a technical framework, without controlling publications. In the same case, a confrontation is expected between Dioum and El Hadji Assane Demba, arrested recently at the Blaise Diagne International Airport. The latter must also be heard in the coming days by the judge, in the framework of a judicial delegation. This face-to-face could mark a decisive turning point in this sprawling affair which continues to make great noise in Senegal.
