An act of vandalism struck the lycée Djignabo de Ziguinchor in the night of 10 to 11 July. The Bureau du Surveillant Général has been the target of a criminal arson, causing significant material damage, without causing any victims. According to initial information, the fire was started intentionally. Suspicions are directed at certain candidates recently adjourned to the baccalauréat, potentially animated by frustration. However, no trace is confirmed for the moment, the investigation opened by the police is still in progress. Reacting to this act, the proviseur de l’établissement, Henry Kantoussan, called for a reinforcement of the security system. “The authorities must contribute to reinforcing the security staff of this high school to at least minimise the risks of insecurity and ensure the security of our logistical infrastructures and especially the populations”, he declared to the GMS channel.
