During his assessing by the Appointments Committee on January 30, 2025, Samuel Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation-designate, vowed to continue his campaigning against sexuality by pursuing the questionable Anti-Gay Bill in the 9th Parliament. He argued that the expenses is necessary to uphold Ghana’s social ideals and political norms. This is a matter of principle and regional attention. According to George, the Anti-Gay Bill is not about prejudice but rather about upholding our nation’s spiritual and social ideals.
While Ghana supports human rights, George argued that some practices are incompatible with the country’s customs and beliefs. He expressed confidence that the act would gain widespread support from both Parliament and the public, asserting,” The citizens of Ghana have spoken plainly on this matter, and as their agent, I will guarantee that their voice is heard”.
Despite being concerned by foreign organizations, George argued that Ghana has the right to adopt its own laws without the intervention of outsiders. He reiterated his dedication to preserving Ghanaian political values and pledged to work closely with Parliament and relevant partners to ensure the president’s section.
The restoration of the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill has sparked considerable controversy. Followers claim it is necessary to uphold Ghana’s beliefs, while critics claim it violates international human rights. As the costs progresses, its effect on Ghana’s legal and social environment remains to be seen.
