Ideye expresses concern that the Nigerian league is not improving and acknowledges that there is still a significant distance to cover for progress.

Enyimba striker Brown Ideye has criticized the quality of the Nigeria Premier Football League, stating that it has not improved and still has a long way to go. Ideye rejoined the Nigerian league by signing for Enyimba in December 2024. He has played for the team in both NPFL and CAF Confederation Cup matches, scoring two goals. Reflecting on his experience since returning, Ideye expressed that many areas require enhancement. “The situation is deteriorating, the league isn’t advancing, and I believe we have a long way ahead,” he mentioned in an interview following Enyimba’s 2-0 loss to Kwara United in Wednesday’s rescheduled matchday 16 NPFL encounter in Ilorin. “Personally, my time at Enyimba has been great, but there are many aspects of the league that need improvement that haven’t changed yet.” The former West Brom striker also addressed the poor performance of Nigerian clubs in CAF competitions. He emphasized what needs to be improved for Nigerian clubs to succeed on the continent, noting issues with travel, food, accommodation, and player relaxation. We Nigerians are not prepared for continental matters; we need to get our own affairs in order before attempting to engage on a continental level, rather than going there and embarrassing ourselves. Enyimba was eliminated in the group stage of the CAF after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Zamalek in their last match. Ideye has scored two goals in the four games he has played for Enyimba.
