Iran warns of irreversible damage to regional infrastructure over Trump’s threat

Iran has warned of ‘irreversible damage’ to regional infrastructure should its power plants be attacked by the United States and Israel.

In a statement posted on X, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s parliament, warned that vital infrastructure and energy facilities across the Middle East could face ‘irreversible destruction’ if Iranian power plants come under attack.

He stated: “As soon as our power plants and infrastructure are targeted, the critical infrastructure, energy infrastructure, and oil facilities throughout the region will be deemed legitimate targets and will be destroyed irreversibly, resulting in prolonged high oil prices.”

These remarks follow President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to Iran, demanding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping within 48 hours or face the destruction of its energy infrastructure.

On Saturday evening, Trump posted on Truth Social that the US would ‘hit and obliterate’ Iranian power plants, beginning with the largest, if Tehran did not fully reopen the strait by 23:44 GMT on Monday.
