Jigawa to commemorate 1906 anti-colonial resistance with two-day eventĀ

The people of Hadejia in Jigawa State are set to commemorate their historic resistance against colonial rule with a two-day event scheduled for April 24 to 25 in Hadejia town.

Chairman of the Organising Committee and Galadiman Hadejia, Alhaji Usman Abdul’aziz, disclosed this during a press conference.

He said the commemoration is aimed at instilling courage, reinforcing values, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Hadejia people.

According to him, the event is rooted in a historic encounter in 1906, which claimed the lives of over 800 Hadejia warriors, including the then emir, Alhaji Muhammad Mai Shahada. He added that British forces also suffered casualties in the clash, including their commanding officer.

Abdul’aziz further outlined activities planned for the event, including guided visits to key historical sites and the unveiling of a book that provides a comprehensive account of the incident. The publication was authored by the late Professor Haruna Wakili in collaboration with other historians.
