Durban – King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has moved to make amends after a video went viral in which he appeared to disrespect the head of the powerful Shembe church, Unyazi Lwezulu.

In the video, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini—appearing intoxicated—was recorded verbally abusing his wife, Queen Nomzamo Myeni, accusing her of infidelity, threatening to expel her from the palace and cut off her allowance.

The Zulu King also made derogatory remarks about the Shembe Church leader, Unyazi Lwezulu, whom he called an ā€œislimaā€ (idiot).

However, the contrite King Misuzulu kaZwelithini sent a delegation, led by Inkosi Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, Chairperson of the King’s Council, accompanied by the His Majesty’s Spokesperson Mpikayise Buthelezi, to meet with ā€œUnyazi Lwezulu in a spirit of mutual respect, openness and family unityā€.

On Sunday, 12 July 2026, the Office of His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini announced ā€œthe successful conclusion of a cordial engagement between representatives of His Majesty and Unyazi Lwezuluā€.

Also present during the engagement was the Traditional Prime Minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi.

ā€œThe Zulu Royal Family delegation was entrusted by His Majesty to undertake the engagement on his behalf,ā€ confirmed the Office of His Majesty in a statement made available to The Bulrushes.

ā€œDuring the meeting, Unyazi Lwezulu reaffirmed that His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini remains his King, describing recent misunderstandings as a family matter that has now been resolved.

ā€œHe further reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the Zulu Throne and the Zulu Nation and expressed his appreciation for the humility, respect and sincerity demonstrated by the Royal Family delegation throughout the engagement.ā€

As a gesture of goodwill and respect, the delegation presented cattle to the Shembe leadership on behalf of His Majesty.

ā€œThe presentation symbolised reconciliation, mutual respect and the enduring relationship between the Zulu Throne and the Shembe community,ā€ the statement said.

ā€œHis Majesty welcomes the positive outcome of the engagement and reaffirms that dialogue, mutual respect and family unity remain the enduring values upon which the Zulu Kingdom continues to strengthen its relationships with traditional leaders, faith-based communities and all people.

ā€œThe Kingdom remains committed to promoting reconciliation, social cohesion and nation-building in the interests of present and future generations.ā€
