The financial indictment chamber of the Court of Appeal of Dakar ordered, on Tuesday 12 August 2025, the provisional release of Lat Diop, former director general of La Lonase, for wearing an electronic bracelet. This decision follows the initial refusal of the judge d’instruction financier to grant la liberté provisoire to Lat Diop. His lawyers, Me Seydou Diagne, Me Alioune Badara Fall et leurs confrères, have appealed, obtaining the confirmation of the refusal order by the financial indictment chamber. Lat Diop, who has been on remand since September 2024 on charges of embezzlement of public funds, extortion and money laundering involving over 8 billion FCFA, will be able to recover a supervised release, unless the Public Prosecutor’s Office files a petition in cassation.
