Reports indicate that this fee is comparable to the £23.2 million Chelsea initially paid to acquire Ugochukwu from Rennes in 2023. Ugochukwu was deemed unnecessary at Chelsea as the club aims to offload several players from their so-called ‘bomb squad,’ which includes England stars Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, who are training apart from Enzo Maresca’s main squad. After two years at Chelsea, where he featured in 15 matches across all competitions in his first season, he has now been loaned to Southampton for the 2024-25 season.
