​MAC de Saint-Louis: a minor detained by the BFEM 

  At the Maison d’Arrêt et de Correction (MAC) of Saint-Louis, a young prisoner has reached a major stage in his educational journey by successfully obtaining his Brevet de Fin d’Études Moyennes (BFEM) 2025. Aged under 18 and in provisional detention, he was en classe de 3e and a pu composer dans des conditions encadrées, malgré les contraintes du milieu carcéral. According to a note shared by the Directorate-General of the Penitentiary Administration (DGAP) on Facebook on Monday 4 August, this success is the result of a collective commitment: “Thanks to the exemplary mobilization of the penitentiary administration, with the support of the investigating judge Abdoulaye Gueye and the Inspectorate of Education and Training of Saint-Louis, toutes les conditions We were gathered to allow him to pass the examination under escort, in the respect of dignity and hope. I’m not sure. To mark this exceptional success, a ceremony was organized within the MAC. It was attended by: the Director of the Maison d’Arrêt et de Correction, the Regional Director of the Penitentiary Administration, Mme Ndeye Coura Diop, in charge of projects with the Inspection de l’Éducation et de la Formation, the investigating judge, and a representative of the family of the young laureate. “Congratulations to the young laureate and to all the actors engaged for a more humane justice and an inclusive education, even behind bars”, concludes the Direction générale de l’administration pénitentiaire.
