The Judicial Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PJF) continues to thoroughly investigate the management of Macky Sall, some of whose relatives have already been arrested for embezzlement of public funds. According to Le Quotidien, the PJF received a mandate to examine the management of the Senegalese Air Force over the period 2015-2022. The aim is to examine the arms and equipment contracts concluded during this period and to determine the conditions under which they were drawn up. Le journal reports that the procureur de la République du Pôle financier has sent a request to the chief of staff of the Air Force, Brigadier General El Hadj Niang, asking him to authorize the Division des enquêtes criminelles (DIC) to hear “all military authorities” and to obtain communication of all documents relating to the markets in question. The attention of the investigators is particularly focused on the contract signed in February 2022 between the General Staff of the Air Force and the Turkish company Baykar Makina. The modalities and conditions of this market are of particular interest to investigators, who also require the submission of all relevant documents. According to Le Quotidien’s information, the wording of the demand seems to be indirectly aimed at the current Minister of the Armed Forces. Noteworthy fact: the commander of this prestigious military corps at the time, General Birame Diop, is today Minister of the Armed Forces.
