Maseko’s Second Half Goal Against South Korea Sends Bafana Into Knockout Stages 

Guadalupe – South Africa beat South Korea 1-0 in a hard-fought Group A FIFA World Cup match at Monterrey Stadium, in Mexico, to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time.

After several missed opportunities, South African international star Thapelo Maseko scored the all-important goal in the 62nd minute.

South Korea put pressure as much as they could, but South Africa held on to the end.

In the other Group A match, Mexico beat the Czech Republic 3-0.

Meanwhile, the South African government has congratulated Bafana Bafana on their victory over South Korea at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“The impressive result is a proud moment for South Africa and reflects the team’s determination, discipline, and fighting spirit on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages,” the government said in a statement made available to The Bulrushes early on Thursday, 25 June 2026..

“The performance has inspired hope and excitement among South Africans at home and abroad, while showcasing the country’s football talent to the world.

“The government wishes the team well for the remainder of the tournament as the team continues to fly the South African flag high and make the nation proud.”
