Despite facing personal challenges and being away from his family, Ntyatyambo Mhlebi (19) achieved six distinctions in his matric exams through unwavering discipline, dedication, and a commitment to helping others succeed.
Kwa-Thema—Ntyatyambo Mhlebi (19) achieved six distinctions in his matric exams, but not without great challenges.
“I live in Daggafontein, but I had to move to Langaville Ext 8 to be closer to school during my Grade 11 year,” he said.
Mhlebi needed to be disciplined enough to take care of himself and do his school work, without the daily supervision of his parents – and he excelled.
He obtained distinctions in accounting, mathematics, economics, business studies, tourism and life orientation.
“I always teach other learners what I understand better. We had cross-night sessions and afternoon classes, and I made sure that I studied the subject I would write the day before the exam, to channel my way of thinking with the subject.
“I also used all the help I could get from my teachers, attending all extra classes during the afternoon, Saturdays and Sundays,” he explained.
Mhlebi said he expected great results because of all the hard work he put in.
“It was what I worked for the entire year,” he added.
He plans to study BCom Accounting at the University of Johannesburg. When he was not studying, he enjoyed watching sports (local football), and going on morning runs.
“The one thing that kept me going is seeing that passing with good grades is possible, if you come out of your comfort zone. You just need to motivate yourself with the achievements of others. If they can do it, you can also do it,” he concluded.
