Motorcycle Thieves Nabbed Along The N1 By TMPD, 3 Bikes, Parts Recovered

Johannesburg – Two men have been arrested after members of the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) flagged them down, searched their vehicle and found multiple motorcycles and parts whose origins they could not explain.

The stop and search was carried out on Saturday, 22 August 2026, by members of the TMPD Drug Unit who were patrolling in the Centurion area.

They spotted a suspicious vehicle and stopped it at the N1 and Botha Avenue off-ramp.

Upon inspection, the TMPD found motorcycles and engines inside the van, which the suspects could not account for.

TMPD arrested the two occupants of the vehicle, who are Ugandans.

Further verification with relevant authorities indicated the suspects are allegedly part of a cross‑border syndicate that smuggles stolen motorcycles into neighbouring countries.

Recovered items include a black Toyota Voxy, a Honda, a Yamaha, and two Triumph motorcycle engines.

The estimated value of the suspected stolen property was estimated at R880 000.

The motorcycles were reported stolen in Kempton Park, Alberton, and Lyttelton.

“The suspects were immediately arrested for possession of three stolen motorcycles, possession of two stolen motorcycle engines, fraud, and possession of stolen property,” said the TMPD.
