The Taraba State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disowned a social media report alleging that the agency uncovered a suspected drug bunker at the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo.
The command, in an official clarification signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mawoh Paul Voloh, on Tuesday, said it did not carry out any operation at the college or its immediate vicinity.
The clarification followed the circulation of a publication titled, “NDLEA Uncovers Suspected Drug Bunker at Taraba College of Nursing Sciences.”
According to the command, it neither reported nor issued any statement concerning the alleged discovery of a “drug bunker” at the institution.
“The photographs and narrative being circulated online should not be attributed to the NDLEA Taraba Command. It has no official record of such an operation or report,” the NDLEA said.
The command explained that its ongoing anti-drug operations across the state were being conducted under Operation Restore Order, which is aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling illicit drug activities and trafficking networks.
However, it cautioned that not every image or report circulating on social media represents an official NDLEA operation or statement.
The agency described the publication as misleading, warning that it could wrongly associate the college, its management, staff and students with illicit drug activities and consequently damage the reputation of innocent persons.
The NDLEA urged members of the public and the media to verify information with relevant authorities before publishing or circulating reports concerning its operations.
