Midrand – With just 300 days to go before the first centre pass at the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia, Netball South Africa launched the “Road to Sydney Campaign” and “Netball Friday” initiative.

Mall of Africa’s Crystal Court was “a hive of activity” on Friday, 30 October 2026.

Government officials, sponsors, and netball players were in attendance to witness the unveiling of the 2027 Netball Friday merchandise.

SPAR Proteas players modelled some of the Netball Friday merchandise.

Netball South Africa President Mami Diale said: “Today is an important day for us as a federation because we are sending a very clear message… we need the country to rally behind the SPAR Proteas as they prepare for the 2027 Netball World Cup.

“The support we have been getting needs to grow as we build up to and during the World Cup in Sydney.

“The team will be busy in 2027 participating in different competitions in preparation for the World Cup.

“We will need the whole country behind our girls during this time.

“We know what they can achieve; they know what they can do.

“We believe that it will mean a lot to them knowing that millions of South Africans in the country, and other parts of the world, are with them.”

Diale said the launch of Netball Friday with 300 days to go was a clear call to action – RALLY BEHIND SPAR PROTEAS.

“We need everyone to get their merchandise and support the team for the next 44 weeks leading up to Sydney,” Diale said.

“To our communities, let every Friday be a SPAR Protea Friday, wear the T-shirt to school, to work, to the malls and show our girls that the nation stands with them – wear your netball fanwear every Friday.”

Diale added: “We believe in youth empowerment.

“Netball South Africa has partnered with STADIO Higher Education in Centurion.

“This saw some of their fashion students assist with creative direction of the fashion show on the day.”
