The Nigel Retired Nurses will host a nurses’ celebration in Duduza on May 23. The group comprises professionals mainly living in Nigel and the surrounding suburbs, including Dunnottar, Alrapark and Heidelberg.
Most of the retired nurses are still physically, mentally and generally well, with some getting employed by the private sector, development partners with overseas donors and pharmaceutical companies, finding employment in other countries, others become small business entrepreneurs, and others stay at home due to the country’s employment challenges.
All these nurses have various qualification levels in different categories, which they can use to develop the community, especially those interested in pursuing nursing careers but who face financial challenges.
“We are still affiliated with the South African Nursing Council, the Democratic Nursing Organisation and the South African Society of Occupational Health Nurses.
“We will soon be registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission as a group once the figure has increased and we meet all the requirements to practice as a registered body in our country,” explained Flo Tlagae, one of the founders.
The event will start at noon at the Dutch Reformed Church on the corner of Mtetwa and Ntombela streets. For more information, call Joyce Mkhwane on 078 129 0384 or Tlagae on 082 978 3338.
