Niger’s military government has formally removed the nation from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), a regional alliance established in 2015 to fight Islamic extremist groups in the Lake Chad area. This action highlights Niger’s increasing disconnection from its past partners, succeeding its 2023 coup and its partnership with Burkina Faso and Mali in the newly formed Alliance of Sahel States.
