A new national resource center is to be established in Nigeria for people with sensory impairment.
This comes as the country’s humanitarian affairs and disaster management head, Bernard Doro, former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje and other humanitarian stakeholders rally support for the center’s establishment.
The minister, while highlighting the significance of the initiative, said, “People living with disabilities cannot continue to be ignored in Nigeria.
“We must move towards a future where accessibility is by design, moving away from retrofitting tools towards building universal platforms; digital must be the priority here. Technology should empower individuals to navigate the world on their own terms.”
On her part, Fatima Ganduje Abiola-Ajumobi, founder of Let’s Talk Humanity and pioneer of the center, said she is committed to making an impact on the lives of PWDs.
“A national resource center for those with sensory impairment to be able to tap into the international knowledge and the international resources that are available in the parts of the world that are much more developed than us when it comes to special needs,” she stated.
Earlier, Ganduje had called on Northern governors and the Nigerian government to invest in PWDs to halt the begging menace.
