The Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ) of the Okatakyie Hotel in Takoradi has been accused of assaulting a customer and later claimed that because of his connections to prominent members of the New Patriotic Party ( NPP ), particularly the Member of Parliament for the area, he will not face any consequences.
Kojo Asante Anane, the Okatakyie Hotel CEO, allegedly assaulted a client, identified as Daniel Pumi, while wielding a pulley and a pump-action weapons. The victim bled from cuts he sustained as well as a number of other physical injuries as a result of the unprovoked abuse.
Following the rape, Mr. Anane quickly called the police, who later imprisoned Daniel Pumi, at the Takoradi Central Police Station on the backside of fabricated charges. The intention was to prevent Pumi from having him arrested for assault and to put the police on his part.
The Police continued to detain the target and place him in jail until a friend posted his parole of Ghc 1, 000 despite his already-injured condition.
The incident has shocked Takoradi, a city that has seen for overt disregard for human life and the display of power abuse. Mr Anane, following the assault, is alleged to have boasted that no one can hold him accountable, citing his connections with the Takoradi police and the Member of Parliament ( MP ) for Effia, Honourable Yaw Boamah-Nyarko.
