Oyedele pledges to prioritize revenue mobilization, fiscal sustainability

The Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, has pledged to prioritize revenue mobilization, spending efficiency and fiscal sustainability.

DAILY POST reports that President Bola Tinubu swore in Oyedele during a brief ceremony held at the State House on Monday.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the ceremony at the Presidential Villa, Oyedele expressed gratitude to the President for the trust placed in him.

He described the opportunity to serve Nigeria at such a critical time as a privilege, promising to give his best in the role.

“The day the reward for doing a good job is more work,” Oyedele said, noting that public service at the highest level comes with greater responsibility.

He also thanked Nigerians and key stakeholders for supporting the reforms he has helped to drive, stressing that the real value of reforms lies in effective execution.

“Reforms are only as good as the paper on which they are written. What is really important is the diligent execution. This is part of moving from policy formulation to execution,” he said.

The minister assured the President and Nigerians that he would remain committed to delivering results.

“One thing I can promise Mr President and the Nigerian people is that I will give my very best at every point in time.”

Speaking on his priorities, Oyedele said the focus of the Ministry of Finance would align with the broader goals of the federal government.

According to him, a key objective will be boosting revenue generation to meet the growing demands on government finances at both federal and sub-national levels.

He also emphasised the need to improve spending efficiency to ensure that every naira generated delivers maximum value for citizens.

Other areas of focus, he noted, include strengthening debt management and maintaining fiscal sustainability.

Oyedele added that the ministry would work closely with other arms of government to ensure fiscal policies align with monetary, trade and other economic policies.

He said Nigeria must also position itself strategically to navigate global economic challenges and take advantage of emerging opportunities.

“We don’t live in isolation. With global geopolitical developments and economic pressures, the question is how Nigeria can best manage challenges while maximising opportunities both locally and globally,” Oyedele said.
