Tsakani – Thembinkosi Mthembu, aka ‘Thesco Beats’, gained a musical interest from his brother, a local DJ. His musically-orientated family fuelled his love for music even more.

“Inspiration from my brother made me find my sense of belonging as a music producer who mainly produces a mixture of hip-hop and amapiano music.

“I went everywhere with my brother and observed him play as a DJ at every gig, and I was fascinated each time I saw him play. I would steal his laptop when he was not around and polish my skills using his apps and other software. Eventually, I gained interest in music production,” said Thembinkosi.

He said most of his family were church choir members. They love music and participate in musical activities. Thembinkosi said he looks up to artists Kabza de Small and Mashbeatz.

“I have worked with a group called Amaqweller as a co-producer on a song called Ama Ice. I have also worked with KB Suspects and K-Man. I have worked on various songs, including Dali, and an album titled Trap Melodies,” he explained.

He said he would drop a song, Impi, on March 28 and is working on an album titled Through the Storm for release on April 10.

The song is about guidance. He asks God to protect and favour him through every obstacle to get enough strength to change the flow of his background.

“My music work was entered into the French Institute, and they will host a concert with various artists to be featured.

“My vision is to perform on big stages and have my music played globally. I guess my talents make me a rare breed in this industry. I can mix different genres such as hip-hop, amapiano, and a touch of kwaito,” he added.

He concluded by saying his music projects township life and its challenges while encouraging others to think better about themselves.

“My music gives hope and inspiration that there will be light at the end of the tunnel. My music gives hope to the hopeless,” he concluded.
