The Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Mountaga Diao, recently took the floor to address the worrying incident that occurred at the Riu Baobab Hotel, located in Mbour, where a group of armed individuals attacked the establishment. During an on-the-spot visit, the Minister expressed his solidarity with the hotel managers and guests affected, while assuring that concrete measures would be put in place to reinforce security in this tourist area. This measure aims to improve security in this region, particularly prized by foreign tourists, by strengthening the presence of law enforcement forces specifically dedicated to the protection of tourist sites. It should be recalled that the incident at the Hotel Riu Baobab was particularly dramatic, a group of about twenty armed individuals stormed the establishment, stealing a large sum of 12 100 000 F CFA, as well as various valuables. The local authorities, in collaboration with the hotel managers, have committed to do everything possible to prevent the repetition of such events. This attack was widely reported by the media, notably by Kawtef, and provoked a lively concern within the tourist community. In response to this threat, Minister Diao stressed the importance of strengthening security infrastructures, while ensuring that such attacks would not tarnish the image of the Senegalese tourism sector, an essential sector for the country’s economy. The authorities, in partnership with the sector’s stakeholders, intend to put in place enhanced security protocols and awareness-raising initiatives to restore tourists’ confidence and guarantee their well-being.
