The Tribunal de Grande Instance de Sédhiou recently held hearings in criminal chambers marked by severe sentences ranging from ten to twenty years of criminal imprisonment. During these four days of hearings, the judges dealt with a case where Lucien N’decky was sentenced to twenty years’ imprisonment for acts of pedophilia and repeated rapes on his own daughter. This exemplary sentence follows the recommendations of some magistrates who have advocated the biannual organization of criminal chamber hearings, in order to accelerate the processing of cases in instance. According to information read on Sud Quotidien, a series of other cases have also been tried. Among these cases, Alpha Oumar Baldé, Abdoulaye Seydi, Amadou Diamanka et Mamadou Diallo were charged with criminal association and international trafficking of Indian hemp, each of whom was sentenced to ten years in prison. In addition, Ansoumane Gassama, although acquitted of the charges of association of criminals, was found guilty of trafficking in Indian hemp and sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment, with a fine of one million CFA francs. Daouda Bangoura, on the other hand, had his initial charges of cultivation and trafficking of hemp requalified, ultimately being retained only for use and detention. His sentence is three years’ imprisonment and a fine of 500,000 CFA francs.
