Selena Gomez is devastated by President Donald Trump’s most recent emigration assault.
On Monday, January 27, the Emilia Perez sun, 32, posted an emotional videos on her Instagram Story, clearly in tears. She captioned it with” I’m sorry” alongside a Mexican flag emoji.
” All my people are getting attacked, the kids. I don’t know. I’m so sad. I wish I could do something, but I didn’t. I don’t understand what to do. I’ll consider anything, I promise”, she said while sobbing. In a follow-up blog, she added,” Obviously it’s not okay to exhibit empathy for people”.
Her response comes just one day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) reported 956 arrests in a nationwide crackdown, the highest number since Trump’s assassination, according to the BBC. The detention followed 286 punishments on January 25, 593 on January 24, and 538 on January 23.
According to data from the Migration Policy Institute, which was cited by the BBC, former leader Joe Biden oversaw 1.5 million arrests in his first four years, a number that is almost similar to Trump’s first expression.
Gomez has long been an outspoken supporter of emigration rights. She also shared her own mother’s immigration trip in a TIME op-ed, revealing that her aunt was the first to cross the U.S. Mexico frontier in the back of a vehicle in the 1970s.
She wrote at the time,” Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I always miss how blessed I am to have been born here owing to my home and the joy of circumstance.”
